Throwback Thursday: Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore
This seems like a good week to look back at the original Royal Oak Offshore, given that Audemars Piguet has just redesigned the entire collection, introducting six new models last week at the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie. The new models are scaled back to 42mm cases, which is the same size as the original, when it was introduced in 1993. In recent years, the ROO has measured about 44mm, with some special editions even larger. Although updated, the sporty look has remained unchanged: eight-sided bezel and octogonal screws, tapisserie dial, 42mm case size and tachymeter on the inner bezel. The original caliber was the 2126/2840. It was one of the first watches to be cased in steel.
