Passionate watch collectors will take a look behind the outer shell and learn appreciate the bold use of new materials in a caliber, or the uniqueness and complication of its functions. However, the luxury marketers and designers know that it is the dial that draws the buyer in. How a brand will chose the design for their dials is dependant in part on the target market.

Accoding to the New York Times, the U.S Market has a trend towards diamond hour indicators and feminine dials in terms of colors, shapes and numbers. The Asian market leans towards a more classical look with Roman numerals while the European market is responsive to both Roman numerals and baton indicators. Women tend to be more concerned with the legibility of the hours markers, while men are more willing to look at a cluttered dial display if they like the underlying contents that the clutter represents.

As with all designers and makers, watch brands will continue to modify and alter the dials of their timepieces. Adjusting to the latest trends and fashions as time goes on, visiting the classical mainstays when needed.
