Carmelo Anthony’s Haute Time Watch of the Day: Ralph Lauren Automotive Flying Tourbillon
The countdown to SIHH 2014 is officially on, and Ralph Lauren has joined the list of manufactures giving a sneak peek at their new collections. The Flying Tourbillon is the newest addition to the brand’s Automotive collection, inspired by Ralph Lauren’s 1938 Type 57SC Bugatti Atlantic Coupe.
The Ralph Lauren Automotive Flying Tourbillon marries high-precision timekeeping with the brand’s signature sporting elegance. Housed in a 45mm stainless steel case, the flying tourbillon is appears through an aperture at 6 o’clock, supported only at the bottom of the cage, appearing as if suspended due to its meticulously cantilevered construction. The RL167 self-winding caliber operates at a frequency of 28,800vph. The 28-jewel movement can be glimpsed through the sapphire-crystal case back.
Meanwhile, the dial pays homage to the dashboard of Ralph Lauren’s Bugatti, with richly toned elm burlwood. Luminescent sword-shaped hands indicate the hours and minutes on the matte-black dial.
