Throwback Thursday: Breitling Navitimer

The Navitimer was ahead of its time when it was introduced in 1952 – its signature circular slide rule, used to perform navigation-related calculations, made it a must-have in the aviation industry, and Breitling went on to become associated with the world’s elite pilots and aviation teams. The Navitimer been continuously manufactured for more than 60 years now, making it the world’s oldest mechanical chronograph still in production. It has even been to space: in 1962, a Navitimer accompanied Scott Carpenter on his orbital flight aboard the Aurora 7 capsule, thus becoming the first space-going wrist chronograph.

A pioneer in terms of the development of the chronograph, Breitling created the world’s first self-winding chronograph movement in 1969. Today, all of its movements are COSC certified.
