Hublot Big Bang “Costa Smeralda” Fetches €110,000 for amfAR

Last week luxury watchmaker Hublot raised €110,000 for amfAR, the Foundation for Aids Research. The Swiss manufacture, which was one of three main partners at the amfAR Milan 2013 event, donated a Big Bang Costa Smeralda in support of the cause.

The timepiece was auctioned off during the event at the Palazzo La Permanente Palace on September 23, just as Italy hosted Milan Fashion Week. Special guest Bianca Brandolini d’Adda acted as auctioneer for the Big Bang Costa Smeralda, which sparked an intense bidding war between designer Roberto Cavalli and Mr Reza Mostafavi. The competition was so strong that Hublot kindly offered a second watch from the “Costa Smeralda” limited edition to satisfy both, thereby raising twice as much for amfAR!

One of a special limited edition of just 100 watches, the Big Bang Costa Smeralda was created as a tribute to the 50th Anniversary of the Costa Smeralda, one the most famous, exclusive and luxurious locations in the world, situated on the Mediterranean island of Sardinia.

The case and bezel of the Big Bang Costa Smeralda are made of polished and satin–finished 18K red gold. The polished 18K red gold grid is set with 319 diamonds for a total of 1.49 carat. Further notable details include a matte white dial with printed logo “Costa Smeralda”, white rubber and alligator strap.
