Watch of the Week: Rolex Datejust

When introduced in 1945, the Datejust was Rolex way to mark its 40th anniversary. It has since grown to become one of their signature collections,  as well as an icon in its own right. It was the first automatic watch with a date function ever launched, and today it still comes with those features. Over the years, Rolex let the collection evolve in a way that the company is so well known for. Like a fine wine, the Datejust collection became only better, being fine-tuned generation after generation.

With its waterproof Oyster case and elegant design, the Datejust has always offered the best of both worlds. It is a good-looking watch that brings just the right note to whether you are wearing a suit and tie or khakis and a polo. Nevertheless, it is built in a very solid way, combining superb performance with a high degree of moisture and dust resistance. This makes it for many the perfect everyday watch, even more so, as it comes in a wide variety of different configurations. Two very appealing examples of this were launched this year, continuing the tradition in a grande way.

The first combines an exquisite dial with the purity of an Oyster-bracelet and polished bezel. Donned in three shades of green, Rolex applied a very appealing palm leaf design on the dial of this Datejust. It is as unexpected as it is beautiful. It forms quite a contrast with the rich look of another Datejust that Rolex also launched this year. Fitted with a jubilee bracelet in Rolesor, Rolex designation for the combination of stainless steel with gold, it comes with a bezel and a gold-tone dial, both in a fluted design. It is an elegant and bold creation, underscoring the brand’s rich heritage in general, and the Datejust collection especially. Both models are 36mm in diameter and fitted with caliber 3235. This caliber is highly resistant to both shocks as well as magnetic fields, thanks to the Chronergy escapement and Parachrom hairspring. As is also a tradition with Rolex, is the movement Chronometer certified.
