A. Lange & Söhne Awards Unique 1815 Chronograph At Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este

The Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este is an event that has no equel. What started in 1929 on the banks of Lake Como, with the famed Villa d’Este as its backdrop, has grown into one of the leading shows of vintage cars in the world. The level is extraordinarily high, as only 50 cars, built between the 1920s and 1980s, are welcomed at the event. They represent the finest in automobile history, yet as it is a Concorso, they will also be judged by some of the leading names in the industry. Last night, at an exclusive gala dinner, the winner of the “Best of Show” category, has been awarded a unique version of the 1815 Chronograph by A. Lange & Söhne.

1815 CHRONOGRAPH “Best of Show” Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este For the first time this year, a unique special model of the 1815 CHRONOGRAPH in white gold with solid pink gold dial and hand-engraved hinged cuvette will be presented as a prize for best car in the competition. In addition to these visible special features, the watch also has several beautiful characteristics that are very rare in watchmaking, such as the double-assembled movement with a total of 306 individual parts, all of which are elaborately finished despite the fact that many of them are hidden from view. By choosing one of the most beautiful column-wheel-driven flyback chronographs as the new trophy, A. Lange & Söhne shows how you can inspire enthusiasm with superb mechanical craftsmanship, while also reminding us of the connection between motorsport and timekeeping that has evolved over the years.

This watch’s 39.5mm large case is crafted from white gold and fitted with a hand-engraved cuvette. It shows the Villa d’Este crest in great detail, along with a commemorative engraving. When opened, one is treated to a full view on Lange’s manufacture caliber L951.5. Exquisitely crafted bridges from untreated German silver secure the various parts responsible for the correct operation of this movement. The level of finish is exceptionally high, with no less than four screwed gold chatons, a hand-engraved balance cock, and blued screws adding a generous amount of color.

The front of this 1815 Chronograph is unlike any other, as A. Lange & Söhne went for a classically inclined contrast. Opposed to the white gold case is the dial made of solid pink gold. This gives the watch a rich appearance that is further amplified by the chestnut-colored subdials. The beauty of this watch is that it has a natural connection to the unique cars on display at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, representing a timeless sense of elegance. This is something that without a doubt will be appreciated by its new owner, who won not only one of the most prestigious classic car shows in the world but also a truly unique A. Lange & Söhne.
