Chopard Joins Forces With Julia Roberts For New Happy Sport Collection
Julia Roberts is a woman that needs no introduction, as this oscar-winning actress starred in a long list of blockbusters which includes cult classics such as “Pretty Woman” and “Notting Hill.” While known for her radiant smile, she excels equally in a more serious setting, as she proved with movies such as “Sleeping with the Enemy” and “The Pelican Brief.” Julia Roberts now joins forces with Chopard, a brand with quite a track record of its own in the movie world, most notably the Cannes Film Festival, becoming the face of their new Happy Sport collection.
Chopard has always been synonymous with the Happy Diamonds, an ingenious way of capturing diamonds in a gold base that can move freely between two layers of sapphire crystal. In 1993, Caroline Scheufele, Chopard’s Co-President, took this concept to the next level by incorporating it in a stainless steel sports watch. This marked the birth of the Happy Sport, a high-end yet casual-styled watch that celebrated the joy of life.
With Julia Roberts joining Chopard, the brand is also introducing a reinterpretation of the very first Happy Sport, featuring a 33mm large case. This gives the watch a sportive look while remaining elegant. It is fitted with a manufacture movement with automatic winding and a power reserve of 42-hours. Like its predecessors, is the new Happy Sports available in various configurations, in either steel or rose gold, or a combination of the two.
Typical for Chopard do even the materials where the Happy Sport are made from having a story. Instead of opting for 316L stainless steel, commonly used within the watch industry, Chopard uses Lucent Steel A223. This anti-allergenic alloy comes with quite a few advantages as it is less likely to get scratched and can be polished to a much brighter finish. Ideal for the new Happy Sport. Even better is that Lucent Steel A223 is made for 70% of recycled materials, perfectly fitting Chopard’s strategy for offering sustainable luxury.
Their ethical gold comes with a similar story, as Chopard is working with small coorperations enabling them to get the gold straight from the source and directly ensure a work environment that is safe and sustainable for the future. With this, they can also focus on the welfare of the mining communities and the natural environment surrounding them. To lower the carbon footprint, Chopard is also recycling gold. As they have a foundry of their own, they can also guarantee the quality. Combined with the conflict-free diamonds used in the Happy Sport, does this make for a watch that radiates in more than one way, as a true Chopard always does.
