Ulysse Nardin Continues Nautical Legacy With Artemis Racing

Few competitions are as demanding as the America’s Cup. While only the best sailors in the world even dare to participate, even they are pushed to the limits. You can imagine the strain that this puts on the watches that they are wearing.  Staying true to its nautical legacy Ulysse Nardin teamed up once again with Artemis Racing for the upcoming edition of the America’s Cup.

Nautical History

This continues the long-standing relationship Ulysse Nardin has with the nautical world, which started making its renowned Marine Chronometers  170 years ago. Today this is still evident in the brand’s logo, but especially the Marine and Diver collection. The Marine collection is more of a classical proposition, taking the vintage style of the Marine Chronometer and bringing it to the wrist. Although sharing some distinct family-DNA with the Marine collection, the watches in the Diver collection are bolder in design and more robust regarding construction. It is also from this collection that Ulysse Nardin adapted a watch to commemorate the partnership with Artemis Racing that started last year when the Swedish racing team.

Competitive Environment

The Diver Chronograph that they selected is already a bold yet practical watch. The only way you can win the America’s Cup is when you go that extra mile, and innovate. Ulysse Nardin did this by wrapping the crown, pushers, and case of the watch in a blue rubber coating. This not only gives the watch a unique look it also ensures that the watch stays well in place on the wrist in wet environments and can be operated with ease and precision. Exactly what is needed when participating in the America’s Cup.

To further aid this, the watch has large hands for easy legibility and a rubber strap to ensure that it remains secure around the wrist. Of course, this wouldn’t be complete without the signature bracelets segments of which one is engraved with the logo of Ulysse Nardin, and the other with that of Artemis Racing. More reference to this can be found on the back where a medallion features a crew and catamaran in full racing mode. This is a detail that Ulysse Nardin also applied in relief on the dial, where several catamarans can be seen competing.

Inside the 45.8 mm case resides automatic chronograph caliber UN-150. This movement is made entirely in-house by Ulysse Nardin and features the brand’s famed silicon escapement. The case of the Diver Chronograph protects this movement against water up to 200 meters. With all these features the Ulysse Nardin Diver Chronograph Artemis Racing has something else in common with the catamarans used by Artemis Racing in the America’s Cup: It is as beautiful as it is capable!
