SIHH 2016 Novelties From Richard Mille
The always charismatic Richard Mille captured the hearts of women last year by gifting them the most precious bouquet of all: a hand-crafted mechanical flower inside the Richard Mille RM 19-02 Tourbillon Fleur. This year, he switches gears, returning to his bad-boy alter ego with a handful of adrenaline-fueled timepieces, led by the ACJ Tourbillon Split Seconds Chronograph. The brand presented only two new watches at SIHH 2016, but expect more to come from Mr. Mille. He likes to surprise throughout the year. In the meantime, here is the 2016 collection.
Richard Mile and Airbus Corporate Jets (ACJ) join forces to create the RM 50-02 ACJ Tourbillon Split Seconds Chronograph, an aviator watch like no other. The watch houses a new tourbillon calibre, featuring a power reserve indicator (70 hours) between 11 and 12 o’clock, a torque indicator that supplies information about the tension of the mainspring allowing the optimisation of the chronometer function and a function indicator to show the watch’s state in each of the positions for winding, neutral and Hand setting.
Less is more. One of the pillars of the Richard Mille collection, the RM 010 Automatic is presented in a new, ultra-thin case, thanks to the development of a brand new automatic caliber of only 3.6mm. Created in-house by the engineers of Les Breuleux, the RM 67-01 Automatic Extra Flat distinguishes itself with its elegant lines, and skeletonized dial.
Richard Mille is known for ultra-complicated pieces, right? So why did Quartz make its way into the name of one of his most provocative creations? Make no mistake; the RM011 Red TPT Quartz Automatic Flyback Chronograph is powered by a mechanical caliber. It is only ‘quartz’ in the construction of the case, which gives it this distinct look. Presented at the end of 2015, the RM011 Red TPT Quartz Automatic Flyback Chronograph continues to be the talk of the town.
