Highlights From Christie’s Upcoming New York Important Watches Auction

Haute Time recently had the chance to visit Christie’s headquarters in New York City. We sat down with Reginald Brack, the luxury auction house’s Vice President and Director of Private Sales – Watches.

Brack, who has many years of experience as an auction consultant and curator of world-class private collections, was the perfect guide to show us pieces from Christie’s upcoming Important Watches sale.

The auction will take place in New York on June 11, but we’ve got an exclusive sneak peek with photos of our favorite highlights!

Patek Philippe Grand Complications Ref. 5270 “Munich Edition” (Lot 70)
This 41mm 18K white gold perpetual calendar timepiece features a central chronograph hand, an instantaneous 30-minute counter and a tachymeter scale, as well as day, date, month, leap year, moon phase and day/night indicators. This limited edition model, of which only 50 were produced, was created in honor of Munich’s “KunstWerkUhr” exhibition. The Ref. 5270 “Munich Edition” was only available for purchase at the Wempe boutique in Munich, and this piece is the first known example to come to auction. It is estimated to fetch between $130,000 – $160,000.

Piaget Aura (Lot 163)
This rare 32.5mm 18K white gold and diamond-set bracelet watch was manufactured by Piaget in 2002. The Aura, so named because the diamonds are like rays of light fanning out from the center of the dial onto the case and bracelet, is set with 277 hand-cut diamonds (approximately 71 carats). It is estimated to fetch between $200,000 – $300,000.

Rolex Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytona (Lot 87)
This limited edition 36.5mm stainless steel model was made for the Peruvian Air Force circa 1969, as designated by the military engraving on the caseback. The manufacture estimates that Rolex produced around 700 watches for the Peruvian Army and Navy, although few were Cosmographs. This model features a matte black Paul Newman dial, a 12-hour counter, a 30-minute counter, small seconds and a fifths-of-a-second chapter ring. It is estimated to fetch between $60,000 – $80,000.
