Hands On The Panerai PAM 615 Luminor Submersible 1950 3 Days Chrono Flyback Automatic Titanio
Go big or go home. It looks like Panerai came to Geneva with the mission of staying in the minds of collectors with the futuristic “Carbotech” and the 52mm Mare Nostrum Titanio. But while those two watches made the headlines, it’s the more versatile Panerai Luminor Submersible 1950 3 Days Chrono Flyback Automatic Titanio PAM 615 that continues to spill the most ink.
Made out of titanium and presented in the brand’s signature Luminor 1950 case, it’s a robust watch for everyday use. The watch is light on the wrist and measures comfortably at 47mm, while crown guards and a solid titanium case back ensure the protection of its in-house automatic Calibre P.9100, on land or under water.
Ater all, Panerai is one of the go-to brands for divers with a serious penchant for mechanical watches, and the PAM 615 is build with those collectors in mind. The watch is water-resistant to a pressure of 30 bar (a depth of about 300 meters), which is on par with the “Carbotech” but ten times the reach of the Mare Nostrum, making it the one that divers are most likely going to pick in the new collection. The watch features a unidirectional rotating bezel that enables divers to calculate immersion times, while the luminous hands, Arabic numerals and dots add functionality when diving in dark waters, which the “Carbotech” lacks. A nice touch, the screw-down chronograph pushers are placed on the left side of the case band, making them easy to manipulate with or without diving gloves.
So, while the “Carbotech,” is stunning and forward thinking, and the Mare Nostrum looks like a perfect build for the Stallones of this world, the Panerai Pam 615 is the watch that should get the most time on the wrist. That or the Panerai Luminor Submersible 1950 3 Days Chrono Flyback Automatic Titanio PAM 614, but we’ll get into that watch a little later. The Panerai Luminor Submersible 1950 3 Days Chrono Flyback Automatic Titanio PAM 615 is priced at $19,500 USD.
